This Thursday, at the offices of the Carnival Entity, the presentation of the person who will be in charge of the Jury Coordination for the 2019 edition of the Concordia Carnival was held. The artist Pecky Land, with an extensive and vast career, will be in charge of this task and provided details on the work modality that will be implemented.
The director, dancer, and choreographer, about to celebrate 45 years of artistic career and who has worked with stars of the stature of Éber Lobato, Reina Reech, Moria Casán, Nito Artaza, among many others, was selected by the Carnival Entity to be the Jury Coordinator for the 2019 edition of the greatest summer festival in the entire region.
After holding a meeting with the Presidents of the Comparsas, and accompanied by the Executive Director of the Carnival Entity, Sebastián Cuberli, and the Competition Coordinator, Yamila Segovia, along with the other members of the Entity Miguel Guitar and Pablo Valiente, Pecky Land spoke with the press. In a meeting that lasted more than an hour, and which allowed for getting to know her better in person and her career, specific aspects of the competition were discussed, which will have its start date on January 19, 2019.
In this context, Pecky stated that “I am delighted to be back in the city of Concordia,” since she was a juror at our Carnival several years ago, and explained that “I am working with the official regulations of the 2019 Carnival competition.”
When referring to the jury selection process and the work methodology, she explained that the objective is to have transparent processes, where the suitability and knowledge of the jurors are prioritized, which will result in the continued growth of the show that takes place on the “Atanasio Bonfiglio” runway.
In this sense, the Director of the Carnival Entity, Sebastián Cuberli, pointed out that “one of the premises set for us by the mayor Enrique Cresto for this edition is the consolidation of the national-level show that Concordia has. For this, we continue to finalize details, always in an open and direct dialogue with the presidents of the comparsas, so that our Carnival continues to grow, with the Entity providing the best possible conditions so that each comparsa can shine and show all its potential in each parade,” he noted.
Jurors selected together with the Comparsas
Regarding the selection of the jury, Pecky Land explained that they are working on the pre-selection of suitable and qualified jurors for each category. There is a list of prominent artists and professionals who are consulted by her work team and who are asked to send their corresponding curriculum vitae.
The prospective jurors will be presented to each President of the Comparsa, who will have access to the curriculum, career, and training of each one, but without real identification, that is, with a fantasy name, so that they can be evaluated in terms of their suitability.
The four highest authorities of the comparsas will hold a vote and thus it will be decided by consensus who will be the definitive jurors who will score the competition categories on each of the parade nights.
To conclude, the Jury Coordinator indicated that 6 jurors per night will be selected for the categories in competition and that they will not be from the city of Concordia, and if possible, not from the province of Entre Ríos either.
