The Mayor held a work meeting with Public Works officials in charge of the Intensive 500-Block Graveling Program that began implementation last November. Representatives from bus lines and private car service companies also participated, with whom progress was made in defining the continuity of the program, establishing the priority of the streets to be repaired.
"We have been working with Mayor Enrique Cresto and the Unpaved Street Maintenance team, together with those responsible for the chamber of bus lines and private car services, on the graveling of streets where public transport travels," indicated the Secretary of Public Works and Services, Jorge Mendieta. "This is one of the commitments the Mayor made before taking office. By improving the condition of the streets, companies will be able to allocate the resources they spend on vehicle repairs to the acquisition of new units," commented Mendieta, referring to the bus companies. "That is why this planned and joint work is important, to benefit all residents," he observed.
Regarding the work carried out, he maintained that "we have worked a lot in the northwest area of the city; we still need to deepen the work in the east area and in Villa Zorraquín, which is the work schedule we defined with the Mayor for the coming weeks, in addition to especially attending to the gravel streets that provide access to schools," he pointed out.
"At this moment they are working well, now they are in Villa Adela," said Cesar Moran, president of the Concordia Public Transport Chamber, regarding the graveling works. "In addition, there are projects to begin asphalt work in the coming weeks on several streets where the bus passes, which we view very favorably," he highlighted.
500-block objective: historical volume of gravel used
"It had been a very long time since this amount of gravel had been contributed to the streets of Concordia," Mendieta highlighted. Through the program that was launched last November, given the arrival of the season that allows for better weather conditions to carry out these tasks, "we contributed nearly 30 thousand cubic meters of gravel in this work, and we are reaching 300 repaired and fixed blocks, out of the 500 that the Mayor set as our objective, so we are continuing with the work to complete the program," he concluded.
