With the objective of guaranteeing the safety of bathers and preserving public health, the municipality of Concordia, through the Undersecretariat of Environment, is carrying out a surveillance and monitoring plan for water quality at the beaches authorized by the Municipality of Concordia and those with high attendance for recreational activities, complementing the actions that CARU is carrying out.
The Environmental Technical Department (under the Undersecretariat of Environment) has been planning and executing the Surveillance and Monitoring Plan for recreational water quality at authorized beaches in the city of Concordia since the beginning of this year. With the objective of obtaining data on the healthiness of the beaches and complying with Provincial Resolution SMA 84/07.
The program includes weekly monitoring with sampling to evaluate different microbiological parameters of pathogens and visual observation for algal blooms.
PREVENTIVE MEASURES AND RECOMMENDATIONS
In parallel, the Undersecretariat of Environment will carry out training sessions aimed at lifeguards and health personnel, in order to strengthen prevention and self-care in the face of the possible presence of cyanobacteria associated with algal blooms.
Likewise, preventive signage has been placed on the beaches, based on a traffic light system, located at lifeguard stations and accompanied by health flags, which indicates the state of the water and the recommended actions:
• Green – Surveillance level: the water is in suitable conditions for recreational use, with no presence of blooms.
• Yellow – Alert level 1: there is a risk. The water has a dispersed greenish appearance. It is recommended to rinse with clean water after bathing.
• Red – Alert level 2: a pasty dark green or brownish accumulation is observed in the water and on the shore. It is recommended not to enter the water, as harmful toxins for health can be released.
The Municipality of Concordia reminds the community of the importance of respecting the indications of the lifeguard personnel and the installed signage, as well as avoiding accidental ingestion of water during recreational activities, as fundamental measures for health care and the safe enjoyment of the beaches.
