This weekend, at the Parque Mitre amphitheater and the Civic Center, the 1st Meeting of Drum Section Directors and Lead Dancers was held. The activities drew the interest of members and representatives of local and regional carnival troupes, who participated in open samba and percussion classes taught by prominent figures in the field.
Melissa Cecilia Torres (Corrientes), Desire Borla (Rosario, Santa Fe), Vanderson Domingos (Brazil), and Michael “do Repique” (Brazil) were in charge of the workshops. They also shared their carnival passion at the “roda do samba” held on Saturday night at Hostería San Gabriel.
“We are very happy because we experienced a weekend full of carnival,” highlighted Claudio “Lolo” Alanis, organizer of the meeting. “Concordia is the only city where we have a Carnival of large troupes, a popular carnival, and a children's carnival, which is experienced in the neighborhoods with great participation and joy. This entire carnival culture is what we want to strengthen and support with these types of proposals,” he detailed.

“The mayor Enrique Cresto supported the realization of the meeting and we are very grateful that he always accompanies us, because with that support we can generate very positive things for the city that enrich the carnival. Drum section directors and lead dancers participated in the clinics, but also many children from the Pequeños Duendes Carnival, who in this way have the possibility to learn from people who are very skilled and know a lot about all of this,” reflected the main promoter of the initiative.

Special mention was made of the participation of the children's troupes in the event. “Melissa and the other specialists we brought to the meeting shared very beautiful moments with the troupes of the little ones. We went to the rehearsals, we went to the neighborhood. Melissa comes from Corrientes and knows a lot about Carnival. She was very moved when she saw how the troupes work in the neighborhoods and the joy with which the children experience this whole process,” highlighted the well-known radio host.
“Carnival is already arriving and the troupes are working hard. We accompany and support with these types of proposals, because we love Carnival. So we are going to continue contributing ideas and working so that our Carnival, which is the most beautiful of all, continues to grow,” concluded Alanis.
