In its 16th ordinary session, the local parliament restored a community hall following the demands of local families and recognized the careers of communicators José Luis Sacks and Ricardo Cañete.
In a day that combined the resolution of historical resident demands with an emotional recognition of the local press, the Deliberative Council of Concordia held its 16th ordinary session of the year. The legislative meeting, which had a quorum of 12 councilors present, was presided over by the vice-mayor and head of the body, Lic. Magdalena Reta de Urquiza.
Responses to the neighborhoods: the Constitución community center returns to the community
The ruling with the greatest direct impact on the citizenry was the approval of a resolution project aimed at neighborhood infrastructure. At the express request of the families of the Constitución neighborhood, the deliberative body voted in favor of terminating a loan-for-use agreement that a civil group held over the neighborhood's Multipurpose Hall (SUM), thus freeing the facilities for collective use.
"We managed to provide a concrete response to a historical demand of the community by approving a resolution project that rescinds a loan-for-use agreement with a group", remarked the president of the body, Magdalena Reta de Urquiza, at the end of the session. "It is a very important day because the families of the neighborhood will once again enjoy their community space", concluded the official regarding this measure that seeks to return a key meeting point, workshops, and social assistance to the residents of the north of the city.
The rest of the agenda was completed with the usual parliamentary processing of administrative case files and tax regularization, intended for the granting of payment plans and operational tools for the daily functioning of the municipal Executive branch.
Tribute to journalistic career
The chamber paused its administrative proceedings to become the stage for an emotional tribute. Approved by all political blocs, the Council formally presented the distinctions as "Outstanding Personalities of Culture and Journalism" to two historical figures of Concordia communication: Ricardo Cañete and José Luis Sacks, the latter having recently concluded his extensive work in local cable television.
Both professionals attended accompanied by a large group of family members, colleagues, and friends. Upon taking the floor, the honorees expressed their deep gratitude to the community and the legislative body for the support received throughout their decades of work in radio and television.
Education and institutional openness
During his speech, Cañete invoked national press heroes and pioneers such as Mariano Moreno and Manuel Belgrano. In this regard, Reta de Urquiza echoed these mentions and fully agreed with the journalist, pointing out that those patriotic figures "have bequeathed us a rich history that marks the path that we often find so difficult to find". Likewise, the official highlighted the indelible mark that both professionals left on the history of local journalism, both in hosting television news programs and in radio cycles in the region. In turn, Sacks closed the tribute block with a brief and powerful message directed at the new generations of communicators: "Fight for your dreams".
The session also had a marked pedagogical component with the presence of students and teachers from School No. 35 "Cabo Sendrós". The visit was part of the institutional and educational programs actively promoted by the Deliberative Council, designed to open the doors of the chamber to local students, allowing them to learn firsthand about the legislative dynamics and the mechanisms of civil democracy in Concordia.
