One week before the start of the 2019 edition of the Concordia Carnival, the Executive Director of the Carnival Entity, Sebastián Cuberli, points out the importance of holding the event during these times of emergency that the city is experiencing due to the rising of the Uruguay River. “It is a celebration that helps the tourist and economic development of the city. Beyond the show, which attracts so many people, the Carnival generates employment and investments, stimulates the economic circuit and strengthens the city's tourist proposal. Today, more than ever, we need to preserve the jobs of the Carnival, for tourists to come, for people to support this celebration and for the Carnival to also be a tool to help Concordia get back on its feet when the river goes down, which is always the hardest part of this story,” he says.
Cuberli points out that “everything is ready to start the Carnival. We would have started this Saturday” (referring to January 19, the originally scheduled date), “but the Mayor Enrique Cresto made a suggestion that we found very timely. To reschedule the start by one week, to dedicate the Municipality's human resources to organizing assistance and care for the families who are suffering from the rising of the river,” he said.
Then, the head of the Carnival Entity pointed out that “the leaders of the Comparsas and the members themselves ask us not to suspend the Carnival, for many reasons. Because they have been working for a long time, because they have invested a lot of money, and because it is also a celebration that unites all the people of Concordia and that today helps us in terms of tourism, which is something more than necessary at this time, to reinforce the city's tourist proposals,” he maintained.
“Of course the Comparsas understand the necessary rescheduling that was carried out, and they are also very concerned about the situation of the river, like all the people of Concordia. But at the same time, they continue to work tirelessly to provide the best of each one and to make a great Carnival again,” emphasized Cuberli.
The Carnival, maintained the head of the Entity, “is a celebration that helps the tourist and economic development of the city, generates employment and investments, stimulates the economic circuit and strengthens the city's tourist proposal. Today, more than ever, we need to preserve the jobs of the Carnival, for tourists to come, for people to support this celebration and for the Carnival to also be a tool to help Concordia get back on its feet when the river goes down, which is always the hardest part of this story.”
In this sense, he indicated that “we are finalizing details, and this edition will bring several novelties regarding the comfort of the public, in addition to other improvements that we have implemented, despite the fact that the general economic situation is not very good, but we continue working on improving this celebration, as has been done year after year, since Mayor Cresto took office,” he assured.
The Concordia Carnival parades will begin on Saturday, January 26, and tickets are on sale through the official website www.concordiacarnaval.com.ar or also from Wednesday to Friday at Caja Mixta (Quintana 68) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on the Saturdays of each parade also from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets, tables, and chairs can be paid for in cash, with national credit cards, and also with the Caja Mixta Card.
