This Monday, with the presence of Mayor Francisco Azcué, the launch of the Youth Deliberative Council was held under the slogan “Your Voice Counts!”, with the objective of fostering ideas and promoting concrete actions that generate a positive impact on the community.
This is the annual instance promoted by the Deliberative Council for the promotion of citizen participation and the civic education of young people, while also serving as a valuable tool to introduce them to legislative work.
Among the planned activities, workshops are scheduled on “The Role of the Council Member”, “Citizen Participation and Public Policy Construction”, “Public Speaking and Leadership” and “Legislative Technique: How to draft a project?”.
Participating students must submit their projects on September 12, while the defense of said projects will be on the 24th of the same month.
Within the schedule, the final session and approval of initiatives are contemplated for October 17. The closing of this edition is scheduled for November 26, with the delivery of certificates.
COMMITMENT AND PARTICIPATION
Azcué highlighted that the program “is very important for us as an administration and for the city because it is related to the promotion of citizen participation, which comprises a civic duty, a moral and ethical basis from which it is not convenient for us to evade” adding that “the smartest thing we can do is to get involved”.
Addressing the students, the Mayor of Concordia maintained that “we are going to give you tools and we are going to sit down to study, to learn and to think. There are reasons to distrust politicians but, I insist, it is not a good idea to disengage, it is not a good idea to look the other way, because if we don't, we let the same people continue, continue doing the same things and clearly that has not done us any good as a city”.
COMPLEMENT
For her part, the President of the Deliberative Council Magdalena Reta de Urquiza, announced that the novelty of this edition is that “we are working to incorporate, from the Citizen Participation Area, the possibility for the projects to be put to a vote by the common citizen, so that they can see the proposals and thus be able to vote on them”.
The Youth Council “is very valuable from an educational point of view because a different process is learned, legislative technique is learned and also how to present an idea orally, so it complements the entire educational process that the student is already developing”, she pointed out.
EDUCATIONAL TOOL
In the same way, the Departmental Director of Schools, José Luis Ferrari, expressed himself, underlining that “it is very important that the children can come, see the legislative part, how the democratic system is and propose their project, which they are working on within the classroom”.
Finally, the Undersecretary of Culture and Education, Carlos Gatto, placed the emphasis on the creativity of the young people: “We know how ingenious they are so surely important ideas will emerge from them with the aim of improving our city and we are here to support all these types of initiatives with our technical teams”.
The presentation was accompanied by municipal officials, council members from the three blocs, and students and teachers from educational institutions.
