Within the framework of the recovery and revitalization works of the Manzores stream, the Environmental Interpretation and Education Center is being established so that citizens, through different educational proposals, have the possibility of learning about the enormous recovery work being carried out in the lower basin area of the Manzores Stream.

What is an Environmental Interpretation Center?

It is a place dedicated to Environmental Orientation, Information, Education, and Awareness so that citizens can value the recovery processes of natural spaces to generate protection and conservation actions.

Why is an Interpretation Center necessary at the Manzores Stream?

There is a need to promote recovery throughout the entire basin; for this very reason, raising public awareness through educational actions promotes the care of the stream, as well as the protection and conservation of biological communities.

The revitalization proposes actions related to the recovery of the vital space as a biological corridor, addressing concrete guidelines for the recovery of the flora and fauna on the banks of the stream. The Interpretation Center is the strategic place for citizen participation through school institutions and NGOs interested in environmental preservation.

The Environmental Interpretation and Education Center has an Environmental Library, Conference Hall, Environmental Cinema Projection Room, Exhibition area, and an Interpretation Walk for the “Rosario Vera Peñaloza” Initial level in the linear park.

The recently enacted Environmental Education Law No. 10402 proposes transversal curricular guidelines for all levels of education on environmental topics. Based on this Law, schools must work on content that addresses, above all, local issues for the care and promotion of a healthy environment. For this reason, the Municipality, through its departments, has this sector that makes available to the citizenry, and especially to school institutions, a space for the study and interpretation of phenomena associated with the revitalization of the Manzores Stream.

Environmental Education

The Environmental Education area began operating in November 2014. In this area, Environmental Education actions are planned and executed, such as workshops, training sessions, educational tours, production of graphic material, birdwatching tours, guided visits to clean points and the recycling plant, free markets, eco-exchanges, Environmental Fairs, consulting, and presentations, with the active participation of school institutions in the city of Concordia.

The environmental theme has several facets; one that takes on vital importance is Education. This administration has carried out awareness activities such as waste separation workshops that reinforce the RED Sustainable Schools Program. These separation workshops have been held at the three levels of education: Initial, Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary levels.

  • Waste separation workshops.
  • Educational tours to protected trails.
  • Educational tour to Clean Points and Recycling Plant.
  • Free markets.
  • Organization of School Environmental Fair.
  • Interpretation Guide of the Riparian Diversity of the Uruguay River / Educational Brochures of Protected Trails – Manzores Stream Wetland and Recycling Plant.
  • Astronomical Nights.
  • Wetland protection system.
