Theatrical Play: “Cuenca. Todo debajo”

After two sold-out performances, the season of “Cuenca. Todo debajo” continues on Sundays in July and August, at 8:00 PM, at the Espacio Cultural Pueblo Viejo (Alem 230. Concordia).

This theatrical performance is inspired by the figure of Melchora Cuenca (1790-1870), a lancer of the League of Free Peoples, teacher, and wife of General José Gervasio Artigas. It links the history of women and men who inhabited both banks of the Uruguay River, in the area of the current cities of Concordia, Salto, and Paysandú, with the experiences of a contemporary woman. Motivated by the search for identity, the creators of this show aim to highlight the role of women and indigenous peoples in the struggles for the independence of America.

In addition to the staging, an installation regarding historical aspects and the creative process is available; at the end of the performance, a moment of exchange with the audience is encouraged, answering questions and engaging in dialogue about artistic issues and the research and history of Melchora Cuenca.
