Theatrical Play: “Cuenca. Todo debajo”

On Sunday, August 4th at 8:00 PM at “Pueblo Viejo” (Alem 230), “Cuenca. Todo debajo” will be presented, a theatrical performance inspired by the figure of Melchora Cuenca (1790-1870), a lancer of the League of Free Peoples, teacher, and wife of General José Gervasio Artigas. The play stars Marta Cot and Olga Lucía Salamanca.

“Cuenca. Todo debajo” links the history of women and men who inhabited both banks of the Uruguay River, in the area of the current cities of Concordia, Salto, and Paysandú, with the experiences of a contemporary woman. Motivated by the search for identity, the creators of this show aim to highlight the role of women and indigenous peoples in the struggles for the independence of America.

In addition to the performance, an installation regarding historical aspects and the creative process will be available; at the end of the show, a moment of exchange with the audience will be encouraged, answering questions and discussing c
