On Monday morning, Mayor Francisco Azcué led the signing of the Inter-Jurisdictional Agreement for the Comprehensive Management and Final Disposal of Urban Solid Waste together with municipalities of the Concordia department.
The event was attended by the Secretary of Environment of Entre Ríos Rosa Hojman, the General Director of Environment and Climate Change of the Province Maximiliano Gómez, the Secretary of Urban Development of the Municipality of Concordia Alejandro López and the Undersecretary of Environment Constanza Montoreano.
The document was signed by the mayor of La Criolla Ariel Stucker, the mayor of Los Charrúas Andrea Imoberdoff, the mayor of Estancia Grande Pablo Goldín; plus authorities from Colonia Roca and Colonia Ayuí.
The signing of the agreement is part of the creation of the Concordia Intermunicipal Consortium, from 2016, taking into account the need for the regionalization of comprehensive urban waste management, which is a priority to adjust strategic points in terms of mobility, transport, and equipment.
The action arises with the objective of achieving the reduction of urban solid waste generation, reducing risks to public health and the environment, promoting source separation, recovery, and recycling of materials, thus reducing the amount of waste that is transported for final disposal.
Currently, the Concordia Regional Environmental Node is under the orbit of the Undersecretariat of Environment, dependent on the Secretariat of Urban Development of the Municipality of Concordia.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
Mayor Azcué described the signing of the agreement as “a milestone in our history, given that beyond the fact that the work is done here in Concordia, it is something that transcends us because it is a plant that belongs to everyone”.
The objective is to be “better in daily work, from collection until the waste reaches the plant and also when treating it”, an action that requires the commitment of the entire community since households are the first link in generation and it is very important that treatment begins at that point with orderly separation.
Finally, Azcué highlighted the constant presence of the Provincial Government in each of the public policies carried out in Concordia and the department in general.
For her part, Hojman highlighted that in this region of the province “they have the privilege of having a Node, where waste can be properly disposed of”, maintaining that from the Secretariat of Environment “we are working so that the entire province has order” to substantially improve the disposal and treatment of waste as well as the care of the environment.
The sanitary landfill of the Parque El Abasto Regional Environmental Node is the only authorized final disposal site for urban solid waste, which receives approximately 70 to 120 tons daily, mostly coming from the waste collection service of our city, as well as from the municipalities that make up the Concordia Intermunicipal Consortium.
From this, approximately 20% is recovered at the separation plant. The rest enters the sanitary landfill for its final disposal.
