This Wednesday, the mayor Enrique Cresto met with his counterpart from the city of Salto, Oriental Republic of Uruguay (ROU), Andrés Lima. Together with the vice-mayor Armando Gay and the president of EMCONTUR, Martín Buraglia, they advanced on the topics of the "common agenda" that both cities have. It was announced that they will request a joint hearing with the Mixed Technical Commission of Salto Grande. Furthermore, the Argentine mayor expressed his solidarity and that of the people of Concordia to the mayor of Salto regarding the judicial situation he is undergoing.
"We came to address a common agenda of topics related to integration and regional development," stated Enrique Cresto at the end of the meeting. "The continuity of coordination efforts at a tourism level from the Salto Grande micro-region, to continue growing in that aspect," was one of the topics addressed.
At the same time, Cresto extended an invitation to the Mayor's Office of Salto to participate and sign the Pact of San Antonio de Padua. In this regard, on June 13th, a provincial meeting of mayors, presidents of government boards, and representatives of different institutions will be held in Concordia, who will join with their signature to the Pact that establishes as a commitment the Laudato Si' encyclical of Pope Francis.
"The points of this Pact are part of the institutional agenda of both municipalities," noted the president of the Deliberative Council, Armando Gay, in this regard. For example, "the protection of the rights of those who need it most, the fight against gender-based violence and against drug trafficking, the care of the environment," the vice-mayor listed.
Joint hearing with CTM
"We are going to request a joint meeting with the Mixed Technical Commission of Salto Grande to address topics for the joint development of the region, now that the authorities of the delegations of both countries are in office," announced Enrique Cresto.
"Taking advantage of the very good relationship that both municipal governments have," "we consider it important to have this joint meeting with CTM" because "we want it to join the concerns and needs of each city, for the benefit of both banks," indicated the mayor of Salto, Andrés Lima.
"The important thing is that both our municipality, as well as that of Salto, and CTM, work in an articulated manner for the development of the region," emphasized Cresto.
Solidarity
The visit of Enrique Cresto and the municipal authorities of Concordia to the city of Salto had to take place because the mayor of the neighboring city is going through a difficult situation. Lima was prosecuted for defamation after he denounced councilors of his own party for falsification of invoices.
"I come to express the support in these difficult moments, from the people of Concordia who know of your transparency, your honesty, and your capacity," expressed Enrique Cresto. And "to congratulate you for the brave step you have taken in this regard."
"I want to thank you for the solidarity, this strengthens us," noted Lima. And finally, the host mayor highlighted that "today's meeting is a reflection of the coincidences we have been having for quite some time," and said he was "very hopeful that this way of working will yield good results."
