This Wednesday marked the beginning of the workshop "Building a Participatory Democracy," an initiative promoted by the Undersecretariat of Education, a department under the Secretariat of Human Development of the Municipality of Concordia. The first meeting was attended by municipal authorities and a large number of residents from the Benito Legerén neighborhood.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Municipal Vice President and President of the Deliberative Council, Lic. Magdalena Reta de Urquiza; the Secretary of Human Development, Lic. Sebastián Arístide; the Undersecretary of Education, Prof. Carlos Gatto; and council members Verónica del Boca and Emmanuel Godoy, among other authorities.
In her remarks, Reta de Urquiza highlighted: "This proposal seeks to provide tools so that every resident can actively get involved in the decision-making processes that impact their community. Democracy is built through the participation of all."
For his part, Arístide remarked: "From the Secretariat of Human Development, we understand that civic education is fundamental to strengthening community ties. This workshop is a sign of our administration's commitment to civic education."
Finally, Gatto underscored the importance of the program: "With these meetings, we seek for both young people and adults to understand that democracy is not just a system of government, but a way of life that is practiced with responsibility and mutual respect."
The workshop consists of 8 weekly meetings, which will be held every Wednesday at 6:30 PM at the Cáritas Hall located in the Nuestra Señora del Luján Chapel, under the coordination of Prof. Franco Alcoba. During the sessions, topics such as authority, responsibility, justice, citizen participation, and the role of neighborhood commissions as tools for neighborhood transformation will be addressed.
With this proposal, the municipal administration led by Mayor Francisco Azcué reaffirms its commitment to education and the construction of a more just, inclusive, and participatory society.
