Following the declaration of the Water Emergency, the Municipality of Concordia and the Decentralized Entity of Sanitary Works launched the Water Contingency Plan, through which responses were provided to the demands of different neighborhoods in the city that were suffering from supply problems due to the lack of foresight, planning, and investment during recent years.
One of the neighborhoods is Pancho Ramírez. There, using own resources, three actions were carried out that can be divided into three stages: first, a pressure check was performed at the homes; then, valves were replaced, and finally, a higher-power pump was installed.
As a result of these works, the supply of drinking water in homes was improved by 80%.
OBJECTIVE: LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS
This Monday afternoon, Mayor Francisco Azcué, together with part of the EDOS technical team, met with residents of the neighborhood. There, he highlighted the Water Contingency Plan, through which an investment of over 200 million pesos was made.
“We managed to provide responses to many sectors of the city that had been suffering from a lack of drinking water. Although much progress has been made in some sectors, we know that there is still work to be done in others, which is why our commitment is to continue working to provide long-term solutions,” he stated.
After thanking and highlighting the work of EDOS and the collaboration of the residents, Azcué remarked that it is very important “that we all take care of the resource together, that we be in solidarity with those to whom we have not yet been able to provide a response. Let us all take care of the water together. Today, in this neighborhood, the service was improved by 80%, but I want to reach 100% so that they no longer have any more problems.”
STAGES
For his part, Hydraulic Engineer Joaquín Gobetto explained that what was done in Pancho Ramírez “can be framed in three stages. The first was a pressure check in all homes; secondly, valve and connection changes were carried out, and finally, a new, higher-power pump was installed.”
This allowed for an improvement, in the first instance, of “80% of the service. The residents themselves have told us that the pressure level is very different from what they had before these works. We will continue working to verify what is happening in the sectors that still present some inconveniences and provide a response.”
GRATEFUL RESIDENTS
At the meeting held at the neighborhood association headquarters, they expressed gratitude for the work carried out, stating that “we are satisfied because in these very hot days we had water in the morning and afternoon, which was a conflict some time ago. It is a joint effort that arrived quickly,” which is why “we thank the administration.”
“We are very proud of the work they have done. Thanks to them, we are no longer short of water. I am very grateful,” stated one of the residents who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 30 years.
In the same way, another resident, who has already lived in Pancho Ramírez for 50 years, expressed herself: “We didn't have water, we always suffered, but they have done a great job and today the reality is different.”
