To avoid inconveniences with the potable water service in some areas of the city, the Decentralized Sanitary Works Entity (EDOS) reiterates the request for solidarity, prudence, and responsibility in the use of the service.
In this regard, engineer Ricardo Rosales from EDOS highlighted the importance of collaborating in the responsible use of water so that everyone has access to this essential service. “It is necessary to adopt special behaviors and precautions,” he stated.
At the same time, the professional made a comparison of data regarding last summer in terms of the rational use by citizens. “We have noticed an excessive increase in water consumption. It is likely because people are at home due to the pandemic and the use of swimming pools and small pools is more frequent,” he explained.
He subsequently added that “at the beginning of this summer, it was observed that water usage is sustained from the morning until after midnight, which causes higher consumption and prevents the pressure in the distribution network from rising.”
On the other hand, he pointed out that another problem is the low level of the Uruguay river, which hinders the work of the intake pumps, resulting in lower performance in their usual operation, given that a lower flow rate is recorded.
For these reasons, EDOS calls for social awareness and responsible use within the framework of an exceptional situation, in which it is necessary to adopt special behaviors and precautions.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Some useful tips that we can implement in our homes to collaborate:
- It is recommended to check for possible leaks in the faucets of our homes.
- Turn off the faucets while brushing our teeth and use a glass of water to rinse our mouths and the toothbrush.
- Shave outside the shower, using a plug and filling the sink basin with the necessary water.
- When washing fruits and vegetables, it is better to do it in a bowl. The water can be used to water plants.
- Use the washing machine only with a full load, with as little soap as possible, and on short cycles.
- The car can be washed with one or two buckets of water. If we do it with a hose, we waste nearly 300 liters.
