THE MUNICIPALITY PROMOTES A MUNICIPAL TAX REDUCTION FOR LOCAL FOOD BUSINESSES AND SUPERMARKETS
Concordia is advancing in fiscal measures to provide relief to local businesses and benefit residents. “We must continue working to generate increasingly better conditions in our city so that they choose Concordia as a land of opportunity, where to invest and where to develop,” highlighted Mayor Azcué.
In a challenging economic context, the Municipality of Concordia presented an ordinance project that establishes a reduction in the tax rates of the Municipal Tax for businesses that carry out the sale and distribution of food and beverages, both wholesale and retail. The measure aims to alleviate the tax burden, strengthen local commerce, and improve final prices for consumers.
Mayor Francisco Azcué and the Secretary of Cabinet Coordination and Treasury, Pablo Ferreyra, together with the Secretary of Government Luciano Dell´Olio, communicated the measure to representatives of the Concordia Center of Commerce, Industry and Services and the Concordia Center of Self-Service Stores and Supermarkets during a meeting held this Tuesday at the Concordia Convention Center. The Municipal Executive will submit an ordinance project to the Deliberative Council that will alleviate the tax burden on local businesses dedicated to the sale and distribution of basic food basket products.
In an adverse economic context marked by the accumulated inflation of recent years, the initiative proposes to incorporate a new subsection to article 18 of the Tax Ordinance No. 38.539, with the objective of establishing specific fiscal benefits for this strategic sector. The project will mean concrete support for local supermarkets, grocery stores, self-service stores, and other essential businesses to favor their profitability in the current context.
From the Executive, they highlighted that the measure aims to strengthen the competitiveness of local commerce, sustain sources of employment, and, at the same time, generate a positive impact on the pockets of consumers by enabling a decrease in the final prices of essential products.
“Despite budgetary restrictions, we have maintained since the beginning of the administration a plan for greater efficiency in spending and responsible use of municipal resources, and we continue to lower the tax pressure,” stated Ferreyra.
“In times where every peso counts, our priority is that public spending be more efficient than ever,” stated Ferreyra. And he added: “This new fiscal relief measure demonstrates a concrete commitment by this administration to local economic development and the well-being of its citizens. It aims to benefit local SMEs that sell basic food basket products, such as food and beverages, so that they can offer better prices to residents and at the same time take care of local jobs in a particularly hard-hit sector that employs many people and reinvests its profits in our city.”
For his part, the Director of Revenue, Fernando Marsicano, clarified that “this is a joint effort with the private sector, and it is an ordinance project that modifies the Tax Ordinance; after its enactment, the Executive Department will issue a Regulatory Decree establishing its implementation.”
RELIEF
At the same time, Azcué stressed the importance of working together with the sectors that boost the local economy: “As we always point out, our vocation is one of listening and permanent dialogue with the objective of being close to those who invest and provide work. With this ordinance, we seek to take care of employment, accompany those who bet on Concordia, and protect our residents' access to essential products,” expressed the Mayor.
“We have been working with the institutions and we carried out a reform eliminating the 2.7% rate of the Municipal Tax for local companies that sell basic food basket products, leaving it at 1.9%, which represents a fiscal relief for those who were in this segment. We understand that it is an important encouragement, a measure that benefits many local companies. We must continue working to generate better conditions in our city so that they choose Concordia as a land of opportunity, where to invest and where to develop,” highlighted the Mayor of Concordia.
“WE VALUE THE PROJECT”
Adrián Lampazzi, president of the Center of Commerce, Industry and Services, stated that from the sector he represents, “we highly value this project and, above all, we value the dialogue we have had in these months,” recalling that during 2024 important measures were achieved, such as the elimination of more than 300 Municipal Taxes and reductions in the Public Lighting tax. “We believe this will be beneficial.”
In the same vein, Laura Kobrinsky, head of the Concordia Center of Self-Service Stores and Supermarkets (CASCO), expressed that this reduction announced this Tuesday represents “a very important relief.”
The project will be discussed by the Deliberative Council in the coming days. It is expected that its approval will generate a virtuous circle of benefits: greater stability for the sector, more accessible prices for the community, and a clear sign of coordination between the municipality and local economic actors.
