Mayor Enrique Cresto signed a collaboration agreement with Dean Aníbal Sattler, through which Nursing students and professors will join the health actions that the municipality has been carrying out in the evacuation centers. Emphasis will be placed on disease prevention.
The Municipality of Concordia continues to redouble its efforts to coordinate, together with the forces that make up the Emergency Operations Committee (COE), the actions and measures to address, from all aspects, the complex situation derived from the rising of the Uruguay River.
On this occasion, to strengthen the assistance and care that has been guaranteed in the evacuation centers, Mayor Enrique Cresto signed a specific collaboration agreement with the Faculty of Life and Health Sciences (FCVyS) of the Autonomous University of Entre Ríos (UADER), represented by its dean, Aníbal Sattler.
Based on this agreement, around 60 students and professors of the University Nursing degree, which is taught at the local UADER campus, will participate in the territorial health approaches carried out by the municipality through the Health Secretariat.
In these interventions, emphasis will be placed on disease prevention and health promotion, in crucial circumstances for the people affected by the flood.
It should also be noted that the students -in this case, those taking the Integrative Practice 1 and Community Health Nursing 1 courses- have the possibility of linking directly with the problems of the territory, in an experience that contributes to their comprehensive training and social commitment.
In this framework, Cresto highlighted the willingness of the university community to join in working during the emergency and took advantage of the meeting to assess and review the situation of the different municipal areas that carry out special tasks in this context.
From the faculty, Dean Sattler stated that “just as we have been working with Municipal Health on different topics, in moments such as the vaccination campaign or the usual approaches in the neighborhoods, now in this complex situation that Concordia is experiencing, we are going to be side by side collaborating, to carry out health promotion and prevention actions”.
For her part, the coordinator of the Concordia campus of the faculty, Gabriela Marsilli, indicated that “specifically we are going to work in one of the evacuation centers, seeing the needs of that place”. She explained that “this link is very important for us, because it contributes to the students' approach to the community, while we provide a service based on the knowledge acquired”.
Accompanying the mayor in the signing of the agreement were the Secretary of Health, Mauro García; the Director of Primary Care, Ana Paula Vila; and the Nursing Coordinator, Carina Barboza.
Permanent action
The municipality's Health Secretariat coordinates assistance to evacuated persons, visiting the centers, performing check-ups with personnel from the Extramuros Program, providing appointments for the nearest CAPS, and resorting to the Municipal Comprehensive Emergency Service (SIME) if necessary.
The homes of self-evacuated persons are also visited to update a census on the matter and to carry out vaccinations and check-ups (for emergencies, call 107).
On the other hand, there are permanent tasks of Veterinary (attends and relocates animals), cleaning and hygiene, dengue prevention and rodent control, provision of food, sheets and water, masonry and electrical work in the centers, and traffic monitoring in flood-prone areas.
Requests for evacuation assistance must be made by calling 103.
