This Sunday Concordia hosted a new edition of the Women's Marathon, which featured the participation of more than 1,000 athletes and saw Johanna Falcon, from San Salvador, as the winner. The race, organized by the Asociación Concordiense Amigos del MTB, was supported by different areas of the Municipality of Concordia.
The winner clocked a total time of 19’33”. The finish was extremely close because 300 meters before the checkered flag, the winner, as well as Melisa Cabrera and Daniela Penoni, were competing for the lead, but with only 100 meters to go, Falcon gave her all and crossed the finish line in first place.
Cabrera, from the town of Chajarí, arrived in second place just one second behind, while the podium was completed by Penoni, also from Chajarí, 7 seconds behind the winner. It is worth highlighting the high level of the elite athletes who provided a great show on a morning with a more than pleasant temperature for sports practice.
Prior to the awards ceremony for all categories, the president of the organization, Esteban Sbresso, stated: “I want to thank you again for being part of this celebration, as we have reached 15 years and that is thanks to you. I also want to thank everyone who worked to make this possible, all the areas of the Municipality. We also wanted to give special recognition to the family of Noemí Do Nacimiento, who was one of the few who ran in every edition and is no longer with us today.”
The race, which was declared of Municipal Interest by the Municipal Executive of Concordia and of Provincial Interest by the Chamber of Deputies of the Province of Entre Ríos, had competitors from different parts of the province, as well as from many provinces of Argentina and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.
