The Municipality of Concordia, through the Secretariat of Urban Development, has been carrying out important cleaning work on reservoirs, drains, and sewers, which fulfill a vital function when the city is affected by heavy rainfall.
One of the main causes of the malfunction of these spaces is the presence of waste.
“These works are carried out with the Municipality's resources precisely so that the city is as little affected as possible each time we have significant rainfall. An example of this was what happened a few days ago, where it was proven that after the cleaning of the reservoirs, the water drained quickly,” stated the Secretary of Urban Development, Alejandro López.
But “unfortunately, we are observing that people have started to dump waste in these places. At the reservoir on Presidente Illia street and Federación, where we are working, we found this week that tires have been dumped, so we ask the community in general not to engage in this type of practice anymore because otherwise these sectors will become clogged again when it rains, and that is precisely what we do not want.”
López recalled that “the water reservoirs fulfill a vital function in the city, as they temporarily retain part of the volume of the floods caused by rainfall, thus reducing the impact downstream and avoiding the collapse or overflow of the drainage systems.”
