Within the framework of the meeting of the Development and Integration Program of the Salto Grande region, the Technical, Environmental, Regulatory, and Economic Feasibility Study for the “Logistics Activities Zone, Industrial Park, and River Port” project was presented this Wednesday, a fundamental initiative for the productive and logistical development of Concordia and the region.
The project seeks to position the city as a strategic node within the MERCOSUR corridor, strengthening local productive chains, generating new investment opportunities, and improving regional competitiveness.
The activity was led by mayor Francisco Azcué and included the participation of representatives from the consulting firm SERMAN & Asociados, responsible for the study, as well as legislators, public agencies, institutions, and representatives of the private sector of the Salto Grande region.
“The development of this project was part of the government platform that we presented to the residents of Concordia and which we have been promoting since the beginning of the administration together with the Provincial Government, the Provincial Executing Unit, and the Inter-American Development Bank,” highlighted Azcué.
The mayor also remarked on the relevance of the feasibility study presented: “Today we have a technical and scientific document that proves that the project is viable from an economic, environmental, and technical point of view. This allows us to move forward with solid foundations.”
In that sense, he maintained that the endorsement obtained will allow for the management of national and international financing “with concrete arguments and planning, leaving behind decisions based on political intuition as was done before.”
Regarding the next stages, Azcué explained that the development of the project will be progressive. “The roadmap established by this study sets out to begin with the Logistics Activities Zone, continue with the expansion of the Industrial Park, and subsequently advance with the Barge Port,” he noted.
Likewise, he pointed out that he is in talks with the authorities of the Administrative Commission of the Uruguay River (CARU) to advance the dredging project of the San Francisco passage, which is key to allowing the navigability of the river.
A COMPREHENSIVE PROJECT FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
During the presentation, SERMAN & Asociados underscored that, although these are three different components —Logistics Activities Zone, Industrial Park, and River Port—, the comprehensive planning and its strategic location make the initiative a key tool to boost the economic growth of Concordia and the region.
Likewise, they remarked that the complex “does not only represent an infrastructure work, but an opportunity to position Concordia as a reference logistics node on the Uruguay River, also promoting balanced and sustainable territorial development in the long term.”
For her part, Dolores Ingouville, Director of Logistics at the company EGGER, stated that the realization of the project would mean a strong boost for exports and the growth of companies in the region, as it would allow for the reduction of operating costs and the optimization of productive logistics.
