Objectives

Implement door-to-door differentiated collection in the included neighborhoods.
Encourage source separation of household solid waste.
Reduce the volume of waste sent to the sanitary landfill.
Prevent the proliferation of illegal dumping sites.

The Municipality of Concordia is carrying out a source separation and differentiated household waste collection plan called “CONCORDIA SEPARA SUS RESIDUOS”. This plan is conducted by the integrated municipal solid waste management board (GIRSU), which is composed of the areas involved in the various stages of waste management, the environmental development and park administration unit (UDAAPA), and the secretariat of urban development.

The implementation of the plan is being developed in stages, with an initial pilot test  carried out in the neighborhoods of Villa Adela, Las Tejas, Benito Legerén, and El Martillo. This is in addition to the Villa Zorraquín neighborhood, where it has been implemented for over 2 years.

In the first stage of the plan, a special training program was developed for workers in the household waste collection service area, which was declared of Municipal interest under decree No. 882/2021.

Subsequently, a communication and dissemination campaign regarding the proposal was developed and implemented through training workshops, which included visits to schools, clubs, and organizations referenced in the areas included in the new service. Likewise, this campaign was implemented through different media such as radio, television, print, and social networks, which remains in effect and is repeated periodically.

OBJECTIVES

  • Implement the differentiated household solid waste collection service with a door-to-door system in the neighborhoods of Benito Legerén, Las Tejas, El Martillo, and Villa Adela.
  • Encourage the separation of household solid waste at the source.
  • Reduce the volume of household solid waste disposed of at the final disposal site / landfill.
  • Prevent the proliferation of micro-dumps

The exclusive differentiated household waste collection service is carried out every TUESDAY starting at 7:15 AM for the neighborhoods of Villa Adela, El Martillo, Las Tejas, and Benito Legerén – Starting at 2:00 PM for the Villa Zorraquín neighborhood.

Residents of the neighborhoods involved in the Plan must set out their dry and clean household waste exclusively on TUESDAYS in front of their homes, so that the Municipal collection service can pick it up and transport it directly to the urban solid waste classification plant located at the “Parque Abasto” landfill, where it is reclassified by workers from the “ECO-ABASTO” recycling cooperative, then compacted and baled for its final recovery and valorization, thus returning to the commercial circuit.

It is key that each of us recognizes the value and importance that the separation of the waste we generate every day in our homes deserves, changing a paradigm of linear economy that involves buying, consuming, and throwing away for a circular economy, which involves returning all the materials we acquire when we purchase food and goods to the commercial circuit.
