Saint-Exupery

The Castillo San Carlos deeply captivated the French aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who continued to visit the place even after the Fuchs Valón family moved to another residence.

In tribute to his time in Concordia, today a statue of The Little Prince can be seen in the park surrounding the castle ruins.
In his book Wind, Sand and Stars, Saint-Exupéry sensitively evoked his experience at the site: “I had landed in a field and did not know that I was going to live a fairy tale: it was in a field near Concordia, in Argentina”

In the 18th century, the area known as El Naranjal was inhabited by the first settlers of the region and was part of the old yerba mate trade route. By the 19th century, the place gained relevance with the installation of a salting plant that began operating on March 21, 1883, marking a milestone in the industrial development of the area. Years later, the property was acquired by Celedonio Pereda, who restored the main mansion and gave it the name it retains to this day.

El Naranjal de Pereda offers guided tours that allow for an in-depth understanding of its historical value and its role in the economic and social evolution of Concordia. During the tour, one can appreciate the architectural vestiges of the old salting plant, such as the brick chimney and the foundations of the industrial plant, witnesses to the productive past of the place.
